Sean McCabe and Lem Springsteen - Connection

Good Vibrations Music founder Sean McCabe and Mood II Swing co-founder Lem Springsteen have struck up a strong studio partnership over the last couple of years. The collaboration has continued apace during the period of lockdown forced by the continuing global pandemic, with McCabe and Springsteen determined to conjure up something to raise spirits amongst followers of deep and soulful house.

“Connection”, the duo’s third collaborative single on Good Vibrations Music, is a celebration of staying connected whilst we’re forced to stay apart. It features a sensitive, soulful lead vocal from Springsteen – ably supported by Jamelle Jones on backing vocals – reciting his own thoughtful, positive lyrics. The message is simple: we may well be apart, but if we support each other, deeper relationships are still possible. The track that sits beneath is typically musically rich and colourful, with McCabe layering positive chord sequences, stirring strings and lilting synthesizer melodies atop a superb bassline and shuffling deep house drums.

As is now customary, McCabe has delivered a number of alternative versions and remixes to sit alongside the memorable original mix. These include a superb “Reprise” mix, which builds from a dreamy, soulful, beat-free start – allowing Springsteen’s vocal and McCabe’s chords a chance to shine – into a bumpin’ dancefloor treat. 

Arguably the most notable alternative version is the “Hook-Up Dub”, where McCabe toughens up the beats, emphasizes the bass and unleashes a string of spacey synth solos. He also makes great use of delay-laden snippets of Springsteen’s vocal and some typically tactile chords.
