Crimelabs

Romanian producer Crimelabs continues to surprise the listener at the border of styles, coming up with a perfect compromise, or better said, a musical balance for an open mind. "Marksmen" EP, his second release, forthcoming on London based label Warm Ears Music, upholds the artist's versatility. Though different tunes as styles, the 2 tracks of this EP collide into the same idea of security, defense, strategy. These motifs are skillfully embedded into the visual and acoustic outlook: suggestive titles ("Marksmen" and "Grit") and rolling, heavy but reassuring beats.
Marksmen brings you into the scenario through dreamy, melodic percussions when the vocal sets the tone: "marksmen restoring order when time is unfortunate". The rolling beat takes over and blends into energetic rhythms revealing a rather sinister scene floating in a state of suspense.
Its power gives enthusiasm and creates a beautiful contrast with the melancholic, fluid vibes. It has weight yet suggests a state of calmness.
Grit starts off gently, we're introduced to cute percussions which gradually fuse with heavy sub and playfull wobble. Easily becomes a headbanger as the wobble makes itself the storyteller.
An evolution of style from Marksmen to Grit, this is a dark half stepper where the heavy note gives its force of character.
