Havik

For its 21st release, Observant welcomes Ireland-based producer Havik with *Monsoon*, a collection of five originals that journey through techno’s darker recesses. Rooted in earthy rhythms and atmospheric depth, the EP highlights Havik’s meticulous craft and instinct for shaping immersive soundscapes.

“Burrow” begins the journey with a shadowy pulse, threading layered percussion through a maze of restrained basslines. It unfolds like a hidden passage, drawing the listener deeper with its quiet intensity. “Diablo” takes a sharper turn, brimming with angular grooves and flickering textures that give the track an unpredictable, almost feral energy.

The title track, “Monsoon,” captures the EP’s essence with its sweeping arcs and intricate polyrhythms. A dense yet breathable soundscape, it channels the primal force of its namesake, blending tribalistic undertones with a sense of perpetual motion. “Hive” hums with restless vitality, its interlocking patterns creating a hypnotic swirl that feels alive and electric. Closing the EP, “Without Taste” slows the pace, offering a reflective piece that drifts between shadow and light, its sparse elements leaving space for introspection.
